I have ever seen! It also had a very nice bathroom which a large bath, traditional style dressing gowns and a welcome platter of fruit and cheese.

The hotel were throwing a pool party to celebrate New Years Eve which we joined in just before midnight and were handed glasses of champagne by very happy and excitable staff. With a live band and fireworks it was a great way to see in 2016.

The pool area is very well maintained and there were always loungers and seating areas available. Fountains of water cascaded down two pillars either side of the pool which made for a magnificent view while relaxing by the pool, the water is quite cold though!

There is a good choice of spa treatments which are reasonably priced. Within the changing rooms there are two plunge pools (one hot water and one cold water), a sauna and a steam room. I had the Aroma glow body scrub, the blissful unity massage and a foot massage which were all good, however, I don't feel that the spa quite lives up to a 5* standard. The reasons for this are all minor points, for example, at no point was I asked to fill in a health questionnaire which is normally standard in spa's, there was no background music in the treatment rooms and during my massage the masseuse left the room for quite a while to use the toilet. None of these are a big deal, it is just that these small details could raise the standard of the spa.

We sampled a lot of the food within the hotel. We ate in the Japanese restaurant (nice but pricey), the Champa bar and ordered room service. All of the food was very tasty and we particularly enjoyed the fresh cake cabinets in the Champa bar. Breakfast had a wide variety of food on offer - fresh pastries, fruit, full English breakfast and more traditional food (including a noodle station where the noodles of your choice were cooked to order in front of you).

We booked a trip to the Angkor temples through the hotel concierge. It is definitely much more pricey to do this but as we were short on time we just went with the quickest and most reliable way to see the temples. We paid $5 for a tuk tuk to take us to Angkor Wat at sunrise and back again, $18 for a tuk tuk to take us around the temples for the whole day and $45 for an English speaking guide for the day. It was expensive but we saw all of the best bits of the temples, plus got some very interesting information from the guide. He also knew the best way to see the temples without being caught up in all the crowds which we felt justified the money we paid as we had such a great experience. The tuk tuk driver had a locked ice cooler with complimentary bottles of water which he distributed to us every time we ran out (this was a God-send as it is extremely hot walking around the temples all day). There are definitely cheaper tours you could get if you had time to search the internet for reputable companies - just don't accept any old tuk tuk drivers offer to show you around the temples, there is huge potential for you to fall victim of a scam.

The hotel have their own group of tuk tuk drivers who are uniformed and wait in the car park ready to take you wherever you want to go. It is generally $2 to get to pub street (the main area for pubs / restaurants / night markets).

The only unfortunate part of our stay at the hotel was that when we went to check out we were charged for the car transfer from the airport which we had already paid for when we booked the hotel. Despite us trying to explain this to the reception staff, there was a language barrier and we kept being told we had to pay it. In the end we did pay but we will be in contact with the hotel manager to try to get a refund.

Overall, this is a lovely hotel with great facilities and friendly staff. It is 5 minutes tuk tuk ride (or 20 mins walking) from Pub street and 15 mins tuk tuk ride from the temples. If you stay here you won't be disappointed.
